House price increases show market is "positive"

The recent rise in house prices signal that the market is looking
"positive", according to a property expert.
Alison Beech, business relationship director at independent estate
agent haart, said that there has definitely been a rise in interest
from people looking to buy houses.
Her comments follow the publication of new figures by the
Department of Communities and Local Government, which show that
house prices went up by 3.8 per cent in the second quarter of
2009.
"We now need [the house price increases] to translate into a rise
in the number of properties being put on the market by prospective
sellers, to unleash this pent-up demand," said Ms Beech.
"Overall, the picture is a positive one."
She added that there are currently some good shared equity schemes
on the market for first-time buyers.
The increase comes after a 2.6 per cent fall in property values in
the first quarter of the year.
