Low carbon properties 'are the future'

The property market will be distinctly different once the UK has
come out of the recession, with non-carbon homes a government
priority, according to one construction expert.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs for trade association the
Federation of Master Builders, said that all the main parties have
shown a clear commitment to creating a low-carbon built
environment.
His comments may take on new significance in the light of Peter
Mandelson's announcement at a meeting of the Strategic Forum for
Construction last week, where he revealed that he is commissioning
a review of the construction industry to ensure it is "fit for
purpose" for delivering a low-carbon future.
"The challenge is for the construction industry to respond to that
and think about its processes so that in terms of innovation and
creativity, it can actually pick up on the new market opportunity,"
stated Mr Berry.
A legally-binding target of at least an 80 per cent cut in
greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 was included in the Climate Change
Act of 2008.
