Kingsteignton is a town which lies at the head of the Teign Estuary. Kingsteignton was reported to be the largest village in England, with an estimated population of over 11,000 people, and in 2009 instead of becoming incorporated into the nearby town of Newton Abbot the village parish took the decision to change the village to a town in its own right. Despite now being a town Kingsteignton still has a strong community sense and for many locals is still seen as a village within its town status.
